Ayden turned 7!!

We now have a 7 year old in the house!  Ayden was spoiled by a birthday weekend, as his birthday was on a Sunday.

Ayden's birthday celebrations started with a little birthday recognition at school on Friday.  He took chocolate dipped, caramel covered, oreo cake pops to share with his class.  When we asked how his class liked the cake pops, he said they all liked them - except for one boy who only ate one bite then threw the rest away. Ayden just couldn't understand why someone would throw away the sugary goodness.  Haha. That night, Ayden had a squeaky voice.  We worried that he wouldn't be feeling well the next day for his birthday party.

On Saturday, Ayden's cold was settling in more and he was tired.  But, he refused to let that keep him down.  We picked up some of his friends for a Laser Tag birthday party.  They enjoyed 30 minutes of chasing each other around in the black lights.

After they were done with Laser Tag, we let them play video games in the arcade for a few minutes. When the tokens ran out, some of the boys had won MANY tickets for prizes.  They traded them in for candy and toys.

After video games, we went to Pizza Hut to eat and open the presents his friends had brought.  The boys played with their parachute soldiers from the arcade while they waited for the pizza.  Then, they enjoyed pizza and basketball cupcakes.  Basketball was the "theme" Ayden picked for his birthday this year.

On Sunday morning, Ayden opened his presents from Mom and Dad.  Some of them he picked out himself the weekend before when he and Mom went birthday shopping.  While shopping, he wanted Michael Jordan shirts - except he mistakenly called them Michael Jackson shirts - which caused mom to laugh for awhile.  Basketball seems to be his new-found favorite.  He plays at school recess and with his cousins at Grandma's house.  He also has a hoop at home.  He is looking forward to the basketball league that starts in January.

The finale to his birthday weekend was a birthday dinner with all of his local family who could make it. Ayden's birthday meal request was Sheppard's Pie and chocolate milk.  Mandy's cousin made an awesome basketball themed cake (and cupcakes) for the parties.  And, his cousins put 8 candles on his cake for him - one candle for each of his 7 years, and one for good luck.

As has become tradition the last couple years, we asked Ayden these same questions:

Ayden, what is your favorite...
  • color - red
  • toy - all of them
  • animal - wolf
  • dinosaur - raptor
  • clothes to wear - jeans and a t-shirt
  • game - playing with toys
  • book - the popcorn one (Popcorn by Frank Asch)
  • sport - basketball
  • drink - pop
  • breakfast food - bacon
  • lunch food - a lunchable (Pizza Lunchable)
  • dinner food - a Hot Pocket
  • snack - yogurt
  • fruit - apple
  • dessert - all of them
  • ice cream flavor - Moose Tracks
  • candy - a popsicle ??  Then when questioned about popsicles being candy - sour stuff
  • song - Ice Ice Baby
  • best friends - Brayden and everybody
  • outside activity - basketball
  • indoor activity - play with toys
  • holiday - Christmas
  • movie - The Guardians
  • TV show - The Flash or Croods
  • NFL team - Cowboys
  • subject in school - math
Ayden, what do you want to be when you grow up?  "A basketball player... a famous one."

Ayden, anything else we should write down?  "Mom and Dad."  What about Mom and Dad?  "I like you a lot."  (Cute little stinker - melted our hearts with that.)

Other interesting facts about our 7 year old:
  • He used to be afraid of heights, but now is more and more brave.
  • He likes his top bed of his bunk bed best, currently.
  • He used to want a light on in his room at night, but now has asked to have it turned off a couple of times.
  • He likes to be "found" in bed (in the morning, when woke up) with Dad saying "Fee, Fi, Fo, Fum.."
  • He has NOT lost any teeth, nor does he have any loose baby teeth.  However, he is growing in permanent teeth behind his bottom-front baby teeth.  We hear this is called "shark teeth" and will most likely resolve itself, eventually - fingers crossed for no extractions.

  • He wants long hair and likes to comb and gel it.
  • He is growing so fast; we are constantly buying new clothes and shoes.
  • He is 51 1/2 inches tall, weighs 89 pounds, and has grown out of his size 4 shoes/boots.
  • He knows all of the alphabet and can count to 100 by ones and by tens.
  • He can read all words that are easy to sound out.  However, he thinks that is a lot of work and doesn't really love reading.  He does love to be read to though.
  • He has roughly 65 sight words memorized for reading.
  • He currently tells us that he is texting his girlfriend (on the smart watch that his birth family sent him for his birthday.)  Haha.
Ayden is so full of life!  We love this kid and are thankful to be his parents.
Happy Birthday Bud!

Happy Holidays Everyone!
